We put two ferries, Viking Line’s MS Mariella and Silja Line’s Silja Symphony I think Turku-Stockholm-Turku (Viking Line) -> Turku-Helsinki (bus) might be cheaper than Turku-Stockholm-Helsinki (Viking Line). But of course Stockholm-Helsinki (Viking Line) is much more comfortable than ship-bus combination. The Silja Serenade/Symphony has the 'promenade deck' which is in my opinion the only major difference in the boats. The better cabins in Viking are better than in Silja. The personnel has dramatically been down gradeed in Silja, so you get better service with Viking. The balcony is definitely a plus in May and when sailing out of Stockholm.

Viking Line VS Tallink Silja Line. Jag har nyligen varit på utställning med två av hundarna i Finland. (Winsent blev Nordisk Juniorvinnare -13.)

Viking line is a cheaper than Silja line. Somehow the ship is more basic. Silja line has a more "luxurious" side to it. At the end, you travel nicely on both, and as Gili_S, depending on who you travel with you must choose. But whatever you chose it is definately a nice experience!

As an experience I would choose Silja Line (Silja Symphony/Silja Serenade). See for yourself: On that route Silja ships are both relatively new but lack the promenade feature of those in Helsinki route, Viking Grace is the newest out of all cruisers in Finland-Sweden route and features more contemporary design and a very good fine dining type of restaurant but Viking Amorella is very old and basic but some of the cabins have been refurbished just recently. All I have heard is that the Viking line is more of a party boat.
